Survey to Give Insights into the State of Education Abroad

Via TRM 2021 State of Education Abroad Survey Runs through November 4

Like you, I’m passionate about international education. It’s why I love my job and why I’ve spent my whole career in this field. Here at Via, yes, providing institutions with study abroad software and solutions for travel risk management is our “what,” but what really drives us is our “why.” We believe in the transformational power of Education Abroad and want to take an active role in driving it forward. We’re thought leaders who want to answer questions that no one else is answering. We want to add value to your work, your program, your institution—and the EA field.

That’s why we developed the 2021 State of Education Abroad Survey, which we launched on October 4. While the survey was Via’s brainchild, it was informed by EA professionals across the nation who participated in our focus groups. They helped craft questions so we could best gather insights on how Education Abroad at U.S. higher education institutions has been impacted since the pandemic first shut down travel in March 2020. The survey covers topics such as study abroad budgets, staffing, mobility plans, institutional support, administrative roles, and more.

Here’s a link to the survey, which should take you just 5-10 minutes to complete. I invite you to share it with other appropriate staff at your institution and/or in your network. The survey will be open through November 4. Data will be compiled and a report released in January 2022.

I don’t need to tell you what a challenging time the past 18+ months have been for all of us in the EA community. This survey is one positive step we can take. By taking the 5-10 minutes to complete it, you can help create a resource that could ultimately benefit you and your EA colleagues as you each advocate for your programs. And, at the very least, it will solidify for you that you’re not alone in the challenges you’ve faced since March 2020.
